10 Ways To Stay Motivated At A Job You Don’t Like

We don’t always get what we expected right away. Our dream may be to get our dream job immediately after university, but reality doesn’t always align with our fantasies. Some people have to go through difficult and demanding work in others to appreciate a great job when they get it. So some of those jobs that you don’t think are good enough, actual help you to concentrate more on the ladder and keep going. Since it is part of the process. All we all need is the right motion

You know you are not motivated at work when ; 

  •  You do not like the nature of your Job.
  •  You feel the organization does not value your input.
  • You are confused about what you want.
  •  You are having a problem with your boss.
  •  You feel you are working more than the salary you earn
  • You aren’t in a good relationship with your co-workers.
  • You feel you are not well paid.
  • There is no room for growth and development.
  • You are afraid of getting a new job

Staying motivated in your current position will not make you happy or jumpy, but it will help you achieve your needs and the reason you got the job for the time being. below are some tips to keep you  along in the job you don’t like

1. why are you not motivated?

Three things are involved here, either;

  • Your job makes you miserable:  you have to ask yourself if the job you are currently doing suits your personality. it means you will do better working alone as the boss in your enterprise. It could also be that you are working out of your field. For instance, If you had graduated from the Department of Zoology but finds yourself in the banking sector. You will feel miserable.
  • The organization you work with could be the problem: for most people learning something new is the highlight of their working experience. If they find themselves in a company or an organization that does not create room for growth, they tend to lack the motivation to work. I f you fall in this category, then it time to look for something better. or talk to the management about it
  • Money or happiness could be the problem:  Truth is people are working in a less paid organization but are happy because of the environment created by the work place. Some people work in a harsh environment because money is the motivation. Whichever way, the most important thing is to discover the reason why you’re lacking motivation in your job.

2. Write down your goals

Your first step in being motivated is to identify your target.  Describe it in whatever you’re working towards.  It could be to set up a business or to foot your tuition fee. Next, write down your long-term goal(s) and put it in a position where you can see every day. looking at these goals every day will motivate you to stay in your job till you get what you want

3.Make friends with coworkers

Try to make friends with co-workers so as not to be bored at work. The friends you make would motivate you to finish your work quickly so you can talk to them more. Chatting with a co-worker is always a great way to wind off the heaviness and loss distraction. I have tried this several times it is a go for me. You will feel bored and unmotivated if you trust yourself alone to be with. Extend an arm of friendship to people and stay motivated till you get something better.

4.Find hobbies outside of work that brings you joy;

Try not to let work become the main factor in your life. If other things make you happy aside from work, invest your time in them.  Having something that you enjoy outside of work can make work more enjoyable. Hobbies will allow you to take your mind off of work and truly relax

Some people enroll in professional classes to broaden their horizons while their current job serves as a means of finance. You can enroll in whatever stuff that brings you happiness. be motivated by your hoobies.

5.Talk to your employer    

Begin with your workplace. Talk with your employer to see if there are any new tasks or assignments you might do on your own. Or, if you have any idea that you’ve been churning on for a while that you feel might help your whole organization, move ahead and sell it! You could end up with a new job that you will feel involved in.

6.Focus on the experience

It’s important, however, that you still do your best in the office, no matter how frustrating and exhausting it can seem. Every role contributes to your professional image and career achievements history — and you want all of that to be positive

The exposure you will get from your job is a ladder that will peddle you to your better job in the future. Most organizations and firms look forward to working with people who had gained a couple of experience in different job positions. Knowing that any job or position you have will add to your resume should be a motivation for you.

7.You have to have a path/plan 

If you feel like you don’t like the job you are doing, you must decide on your next move. What kind of job you want and how to get it, put down all you need to do in other to land you in that great job. Is it solving problems? Learning new skills? Helping others? Creating something new?. When you are done with the planning, and you are okay with yourself, go out in your spare time and search for a job. 

8.Detach  yourself emotionally from the Job

Prioritize the most important tasks and remove non-urgent ones. These will allow you to invest in a genuinely important job. Move back from the obligations that are someone else’s responsibility. Let whatever that happens at the workplace stay there.

9. Use your free time for your project

If you have some spare time at work, why not devote a few hours a day to your private projects (online, blogging, etc.). It seems like you’re working, but you’re just working on your self-improvement! your side gig should be enough motivation for you?

10. Don’t work overtime

If your work is supposed to end by 4 pm every weekday, stick to it. It will allow you enjoy your free time, and do those things you have always wanted to do.

Employers have a way of making you work overtime for the same pay. Do not let them take advantage of that. Remember there is nothing like urgent work. You are not the only one in the company. Set your boundaries and enjoy your free time.
